Annual meeting of the members of the Moldavian Biosafety and Biosecurity Association (MDBBA).

On March 22, 2019, the second meeting of the members of the Moldavian Biosafety and Biosecurity Association (MDBBA) took place. The President of the Association, Mrs. Olga Burduniuc, opened the official part of the event, mentioning the achievements of MDBBA during the last year of activity.

The problems faced by the Association were discussed and the action plan for the next year was revised. The members of the Board of Directors of the Association have decided to set up 5 working groups:

• Professional Development Group
• Group for Editing and Promoting the Scientific Journal of the Association
• IT services and Website Management Group
• Group for Organizing events (conferences, congresses, promotional activities, etc.)
• Financial Management and Accounting Group.

Each event marks us and produces new positive emotions, influences certain decisions and helps us find answers to many questions.

Several young people, members of the Moldavian Biosafety and Biosecurity Association (MDBBA) with the president of the Association Olga Burduniuc, participated with reports at the EBSA22 Conference, Bucharest, Romania, between 2-3 April 2019.

The young people also received sponsorship from EBSA to participate in training workshops in the field of Biosafety and Biosecurity organized during the conference.

The dissemination of impressions, knowledge and good practices obtained at the EBSA22 conference were reviewed and transmitted to MDBBA members at the association meeting, where common priorities for cooperation with international organizations involved in the field were outlined.

Training of young doctors in the workshop “Standardization of antimicrobial susceptibility testing methods”.

A correct choice of antibacterial treatment must be based on real knowledge of the sensitivity / resistance of bacteria to antibiotics. Thus, antimicrobial susceptibility testing is one of the most important laboratory procedures in terms of infectious disease management.

The young doctors were trained in the correct testing of the sensitivity of microorganisms to antimicrobial agents, the detection of resistance mechanisms, the reading, interpretation and reporting of results.

Training of young doctors in the workshop “Good practices in the handling of biological agents”.

During the workshop, trainings were organized for young doctors on biosafety measures for handling biological agents in the microbiological laboratory. Laboratory accidents were simulated and the measures taken to reduce the biological risk resulting from them were demonstrated.

Meeting of the Working Group on the editing of the first issue of the magazine “One Health & Risk Management”.

During the meeting, the members of the Editorial Board studied and analyzed the manuscripts received for publication in the first issue of the journal. The decision was made regarding the acceptance of the manuscripts that will be published in the journal. The members of the Editorial Board planned the subsequent activities and set new goals for the future.

The burden of infections with antimicrobial-resistant microorganisms for the European population is comparable to the burden of flu, tuberculosis, HIV / AIDS combined. Data on regional trends in the evolution of antimicrobial resistance in strains involved in infectious pathology were discussed. The importance of the microbiological laboratory in detecting and monitoring antimicrobial-resistant microorganisms was mentioned.

The microbiology laboratory plays a predominant role in establishing the etiology of communicable diseases and detecting antimicrobial-resistant microorganisms. Data on microorganism resistance to antimicrobials (AMR) will be used on: • elaboration of national policies for the use of antimicrobials by adjusting the guidelines, normative acts arguments for reviewing and updating national clinical protocols; • AMR control through diagnostic expertise; • arguments and contribution to the identification of epidemic outbreaks; • evidence-based data for the development and prevention of healthcare associated infections; planning and carrying out interventions to control these infections.

AMR data will be used by clinicians for reasoned guidance and optimization of empirical antimicrobial therapy; important information for prescribing antibiotics on models of institutional susceptibility; support in the subsequent monitoring of the success of antimicrobial treatment.Specialists identified challenges in obtaining accurate and standardized AMR data and listed opportunities for improvement.
